Over the Edge Fundraiser
Over the Edge
We love to give back to our community and the Over the Edge event lets us have fun doing it! This is the third annual Over the Edge event to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia.
Change a child’s life for the better, forever.
How? The first 85 people to raise $1000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters will rappel 132 feet down the historic Patrick Henry in Downtown Roanoke. Big Brothers Big Sisters provides caring adult mentors for more than 400 children facing adversity in Southwest Virginia. Please help us support Big Brothers Big Sisters by donating through this website.
It is simple, fast and secure; it is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters
Changing perspectives. Changing lives.
For more than 60 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Most children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters live in single-parent and low-income families, or households where a parent is incarcerated. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”). Providing a system of ongoing evaluation and support, Big Brothers Big Sisters is proven by independent studies to help families by improving the odds that Littles will perform better in school and avoid violence and illegal activities, and have stronger relationships with their parents and others. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia serves more than 475 children in our community.
Vision: for all children achieve success in life.
Mission: provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Accountability: By partnering with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community we are accountable for each child in our program achieving:
- Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships
- Avoidance of risky behaviors
- Educational Success
Service Area: We proudly serve children in the Roanoke County, Roanoke City, Salem, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Radford, and Pulaski County areas.
Our Impact: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia served 477 children in 2014. Each year, our Littles take a Youth Outcomes Survey and a Strength Of Relationship survey, which we use to measure and track the impact our program makes on the lives of children.
