Mix It Up!
August Painted Desert Color Recipes
This month we are showcasing two premixed hues: Keep it Teal and Caution Dogs at Work. Keep it Teal is one of my favs. As I was working on this palette, memories of a wonderful trip to visit my sons in Arizona came flooding back.
Both of my boys are environmentalists. One works for the Peregrine Fund saving raptors and the other works in our National Park system saving plants and animals of all sorts. Both live out in the southwest, an area I had not had the privilege to visit until a few years ago.
WOW! What a beautiful landscape, and so different from the mountains of SW Virginia. The natural color palette of the land was amazing, capturing such warmth and vitality.
This month’s palette tips its hat to the beauty of the southwestern states of our country.
It was difficult to limit the number of colors, but here is our combination of six: Keep it Teal, Caution Dogs at Work, High Noon, Canyon, Coral Rust, and Retro Blue.
Keep it Teal and Caution: Dogs at Work are two of our pre-mixed colors. Keep it Teal, a true Teal, not too blue or too green, is lively and refreshing. Caution: Dogs at Work is a bright, fresh, tangerine, which visually speaks of the orange in the sunsets out west. The rest of this month’s palette work off of these two hues.
High Noon is a buttery gold created by mixing 1 part Caution with 1 part Baby I’m Amaized.
Coral Rust, one of our current recipes, is a warm combination of pumpkin and tangerine, soft and subtle. To achieve this color mix 2 parts Appalachian Sunset 1 part Caution: Dogs at Work.
Canyon, which looks especially lovely beside Coral Rust, depicts the rock formations of the west. Not too dark, an earthy caramel created by mixing 2 parts Baby I’m Amaized with 1 part Dirt.
Retro Blue rounds out this group with its light turquoise glow, reminiscent of the native turquoise stones and jewelry. Mix one part Keep it Teal with 2 parts Clean Canvas. Very MCM!
Send us a picture of what you create with this Southwest color scheme. We always love to see your work!
Keep Mixing it Up!
